Track And Field's Luke Watson Qualifies For NCAA Championship In 3,000 Meters

Feb. 1, 2003

It was a long trip to the east coast for senior Luke Watson, but the time he spent making the trip to Boston for the 2003 adidas indoor games was well spent. The fifth-year distance specialist from Stillwater, Minn., automatically qualified for the 2003 NCAA Championship in the 3,000 meters, finishing 10th in the elite field with a time of 7:55.78.

Watson, one of the most successful Irish distance runners in recent Notre Dame history, finished third in the 3,000 meters at the 2002 NCAA Championship. He boasts multiple cross country and track All-America honors in his career and owns school records in the indoor 3,000 meters (7:54.02) and outdoor 3,000 meter steeplechase (8:37.61).

The 2003 NCAA Championship is set for Fayetteville, Ark., on March 14 and 15.
