Track And Field Takes Part In Second Day Of The Meyo Invitational
Liz Grow breaks the school record with a 53.30 400 meter time in the final day of the 14th annual Meyo Invite.

The University of Notre Dame men's and women's track and field team finished competition in the 14th annual Meyo Invitational in the Loftus Sports Complex on Saturday, Feb. 3. Some of the top competition in the country was on campus for the meet this weekend and the Loftus Center crowd was not disappointed in the competitors performances. Junior Liz Grow (New Braunfels, Texas) broke her own school record in the 400 meters with a time of 53.30. Grow now owns the nations third-best 400 meter time of the 2001 indoor season. She also anchored the first-place Notre Dame 4x440 relay team that posted a time of 3:49.88. With no team scoring in the meet, the focus turned to individual improvement and the quest for NCAA qualifying marks. All told, 36 NCAA consideration times and marks were attained by the competitors in the meet, highlighted by a blistering 5,000 meter race on Friday evening. Nine runners posted NCAA consideration times in the race, highlighted by Notre Dame's Ryan Shay (Central Lake, Mich.), who finished second and set a school record (13:52.66). Other individual event winners for the Irish were senior Terry Wray (Brandon, Miss.) taking first in the 500 meters in 1:04.22 and sophomore All-American Tameisha King (Mableton, Ga.) winning her third-consecutive long jump competition with a leap of 19-6 3/4. Next up for the Irish is the Cannon IV Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 9-10. Notre Dame will also start preparing for the 2001 BIG EAST Indoor Championship in the Carrier Dome, Feb. 17-18. |
