Track Teams Compete at the Bronco Invitational

Jay Hofner finishes third in the hammer throw.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Notre Dame's men's and women's track and field teams sent four competitors to the 1998 Bronco Invitational at Western Michigan on Saturday. Sophomore All-American Jennifer Engelhardt won the high jump while junior Kelle Saxen placed third, both with jumps of 5-6. Junior Nadia Schmiedt won the 400-meter hurdles in 59.39 and was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.82.

On the men's side, senior Jay Hofner was the third-best collegiate in the hammer throw with his throw of 182-00. Freshman Matt Dewey was 13th in the discus with 133-04. The Irish return to action at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on May 16.
