Feb. 7, 1998 Irish Finish Strong on Day Two of Adidas/Meyo InvitationalNOTRE DAME, Ind. Notre Dame men's and women's track and field teams finished well against strong competition at the adidas/Meyo Invitational Saturday at Notre Dame. Senior All-American Danny Payton ran to a adidas/Meyo Invitational record time of 1:02.79 in the 500 meters, and junior Bobby Brown placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 47.89. Sophomore Marshaun West ran to a time of 21.60 in the 200 meters, the ninth best time in Notre Dame history, and senior captain Errol Williams was first in the 60-meter hurdles as he ran to a time of 7.93. On the women's side, sophomore JoAnna Deeter placed first in the 3,000 meters as she ran to a strong time of 9:46.92, and senior Nadia Schmiedt placed first in the 500 meters with a adidas/Meyo Invitational record time of 1:12.68. Sophomore Erin Luby won the 1,000 meters in a time of 3:01.07 and junior Kelle Saxen finished second in the high jump with a leap of 5-8. In the Meyo Mile, Michigan senior Kevin Sullivan ran to a time of 3:56.08, the eighth-fastest time in NCAA history and Paul McMullen finished second with a time of 3:56.63. Notre Dame senior All-American Jason Rexing was sixth with a time of 4:04.22 and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with the fourth fastest time in Notre Dame History. |
