Men's Outdoor Track

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., and TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Notre Dame's men's and women's track and field team opened the outdoor track and field season at the Purdue Open and at the Alabama Relays on Saturday. In West Lafayette, junior Mike Brown won the pole vault with a vault of 16-2 3/4. Adrian Irby placed sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 45-4 1/2. Tim Kober finished second in the 800 meters in 1:56.71 while Brian Holinka was fifth in 1:55.77. Ryan Blaney and Jim Pilla finished third and seventh in 9:34.2 and 9:47.3. Gabe Seaman was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.25.

On the women's side, Cara Motter took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.37. Erin Luby placed fifth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:46.10 while Megan Driscoll was sixth in the 5,000 meters in 18:45.6 Stephanie VanHoff placed seventh in the high jump with a jump of 5-2 1/4. Katie Knecht finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 101-8. Sarah Lopienski was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.44.

In Tuscaloosa, senior All-American Errol Williams finished first among collegiate runners in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.01 while Kevin Reher was third in 14.53. Phil Mishka finished sixth among collegiate runners in the 800 meters in 1:53.56, and Travis Davey placed 17th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.97. Chris Cochran placed third in the 200 meters in 21.59 while Marshaun West was eighth in 21.78. Mike Conway was sixth in the 1,500 meters in 3:51.85.

On the women's side, Jennifer Engelhardt placed second among collegiate jumpers in the high jump with a jump of 5-7 while Kelle Saxen was fifth with 5-5. Nadia Schmiedt placed third among collegiate runners in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.35 and was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.98 with teammate Berit Junker right behind in 10th in 1:01.39.
