NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Notre Dame men's soccer team played its final tuneup before opening up the 1998 campaign as the Irish scored two second-half goals to defeat DePaul 3-1 at Alumni Field.
Ben Bocklage and Andrew Aris each tallied in the second half as the Irish came from behind to defeat the visiting Blue Demons.
DePaul jumped out to a 1-0 advantage when Demetrio Sanchez scored the contest's first goal off assists from Dan Dembiec and Joe Ahearn 18:37 into the game. Matt McNew tied the game less than three minutes later as when he headed in a David Cutler pass than was lofted from 30 yards out.
Bocklage put the Irish ahead for good at the 64:11 mark when he picked up a loose ball and drive if from 25 yards out into the left corner of the net. Aris' insurance goal game less than nine minutes later at 73:02 when he took a Scott Wells feed and put it into the net from just outside the penalty box.
Tonight's contest was the second of two exhibition game for the Irish. Notre Dame opens up the 1998 campaign on Tuesday, September 1 at Alumni Field against Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m.
