Box Score
Notre Dame, Ind. -
Ingo Dittel's goal 19:31 into the contest was all the
scoring Seton Hall needed as Notre Dame suffered its second BIG EAST loss
in three games in losing a tough 1-0 decision to Pirates at Alumni Field.
It was the second contest in a five-game homestand for the Irish.
Despite outshooting Seton Hall 19-8 in the contest, Notre Dame
could never capitalize on its scoring chances as the Irish owned an 11-2
shot advantage in the second half. Dittel tallied the game's lone goal
when he picked up a loose ball at the 40-yard line and dribbled it through
the Irish defense.
Notre Dame had many scoring opportunities in both halves, but a
couple of saves from Pirate backs and Seton Hall goalkeeper Alex McDonald
negated those chances. The Irish also owned a 7-5 advantage in corner
kicks.
With the loss, the Irish drop to 3-3-1 on the season and 1-2 in the
BIG EAST, while the Pirates improve their overall record to 4-3 and 2-3 in
league play.
Sophomore Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany), who has started the
last three games for the Irish after missing the first three contests with
a hamstring injury, took six shots and nearly made good on three of those
attempts. The Irish midfield controlled the tempo of the game, but Notre
Dame could just never find the inside of the net.
Notre Dame returns to action on Sun., Sept. 24 when the Irish
entertain another BIG EAST foe, Connecticut, at 1:00 p.m.
Seton Hall (4-3-0, 2-3-0) 1 0 -- 1
Notre Dame (3-3-1, 1-2-0) 0 0 -- 0
