NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Andrew Olsen scored the golden goal in the 100th minute to lift Dartmouth past ninth-seeded Notre Dame 2-1 during the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday night at a windy and rainy Alumni Stadium. The Fighting Irish end the season with a 10-6-4 record.

Olsen had both Dartmouth (12-6-1) goals on the evening. Olsen put the Big Green on top in the 65th minute. Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Dillon Powers (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) netted the equalizer, off a pass from senior forward Steven Perry (Edmond, Okla./Bishop McGuinness), in the 74th minute.

Both teams had several scoring chances in the match. Notre Dame held a 25-22 edge in shots. The Fighting Irish had 13 shots on goal compared to 11 for the Big Green. The Irish had a commanding 15-7 advantage in corner kicks, which included gaining 13 more (14-1) in the second half.

"This was very disappointing and I'm very sad for the players," said Notre Dame head coach Bobby Clark. "It wasn't an easy night to play with the wind and the rain. I thought we did a lot of things well, but they (Dartmouth) are a dangerous team. They have some pretty potent weapons and one of them was the final goal. I'm just so disappointed for our players, especially our seniors."

Dartmouth nearly grabbed the lead in the 19th minute as a shot from Lucky Mkosana was saved by Irish goalkeeper Philip Tuttle (Hooksett, N.H./Brewster Academy), yet Mkosana collected the rebound and put a shot on frame from 17 yards out that was headed away by junior central defender Aaron Maund (Dorchester, Mass./The Roxbury Latin School). Mkosana had a game-high seven shots on goal.

Perry, who led the Irish with six shots on net, threatened in the 21st minute as Dartmouth goalkeeper Lyman Missimer came off his line and the shot deflected off Missimer. Perry had another attempt saved by Missimer in the 24th minute. Missimer had 12 saves on the night, while Tuttle had a career-high eight stops.

With less than a minute left in the opening half, Tuttle deflected a 20-yard shot from Mkosana over the crossbar. A header from Dartmouth's Nick Pappas on the ensuing corner kick went just high of the frame. The match was scoreless at the intermission.

Missimer came up with crucial saves off of shots from Brendan King (Naperville, Ill./Edison Academic Center [Fla.]) and Perry in the 58th and 62nd minutes, respectively.

The Big Green netted the game's first goal when Olsen chipped in a shot from 30 yards out after Tuttle had come out to save an attempt from Mkosana.

Notre Dame continued to attack and controlled much of the second half. The pressure paid off as Perry found Powers and the sophomore ripped a shot through the Big Green defense and into the back of the netting from 16 yards out. It was the fourth goal of the season for Powers.

The Irish pushed for the go-ahead goal and it looked as though it may happen in the 83rd minute as Powers sent a pass to Perry, who got a foot on it from close range, yet Missimer was there for the save. With just over a minute left in regulation, Irish freshman Harrison Shipp (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) had his 20-yard blast tipped over the crossbar by Missimer.

The Dartmouth goal in overtime came on the only shot for either team in the extra session. Austin Bowers sent a cross over to Olsen, who deposited the shot just inside the near post from inside the 18-yard box.

"We were on the wrong side of it tonight," added Clark. "Our guys have worked awful hard. I always say it's a good season to get into the NCAAs (tournament) and it's a very good season if you can play past Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we stopped at just a good season. It was very disappointing because I think this team had the capability of going much further."
