NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Notre Dame fifth-year senior midfielders Adam Mena and Michael Rose were selected by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round of the 2013 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft. Mena and Rose were picked 10th and 11th overall, respectively.

Rose was unable to play for the Fighting Irish this past season due to a knee injury, while Mena suffered a knee injury in the season opener and did not return to the field for the remainder of the campaign.

Mena (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) appeared in 55 career games, including 12 starts, during his Notre Dame career. The wide midfielder tallied 17 points on six goals and five assists. In 2011, he played in all 18 matches (10 starts) and recorded career highs in goals (3) and assists (5).

Mena was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region Second Team in 2010 and 2011. He also received the 2011 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Award and was a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Mena is a two-time recipient of Notre Dame's Rockne Student-Athlete Award.

    Michael Rose

Rose (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) played in 41 career matches, including 21 starts, and produced 14 points on four goals and six assists. He was limited to just eight games during the 2011 season due to a knee injury, yet still managed to notch two goals and one assist. His career-best season occurred in 2010 as he started 19 of the team's 20 matches and posted one goal and four assists.

Rose, a versatile midfielder who could also play in the attack, served as a team co-captain during the 2012 campaign. He was named to the 2011 BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team.

Mena and Rose became the third and fourth Notre Dame players selected into the MLS over the past week. Ryan Finley (F) and Dillon Powers (M) were taken in the first round of last week's MLS SuperDraft. Finley went to the Columbus Crew with the ninth overall selection, while the Colorado Rapids took Powers two picks later.

The Fighting Irish have had 25 MLS draft picks (SuperDraft and Supplemental Draft) during the 12-year tenure of head coach Bobby Clark.
