Irish Men's Soccer Announces 2018 Signing Class

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s soccer team revealed the addition of eight prep student-athletes from the high school class of 2018 contingent on Thursday.

Notre Dame head coach Chad Riley announced Patrick Coleman (Antioch, Illinois), Ben Giacobello (San Clemente, California), Sam Guinane (San Juan Capistrano, California), Jack Lynn (St. Louis, Missouri), Mohamed Omar (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), Philip Quinton (Portland, Oregon), Tyler Shea (Dallas, Texas) and Bryan Silver (Herndon, Virginia) as part of his inaugural signing class, and each player will be eligible to join the Irish roster to begin the 2018 fall season.

Patrick Coleman • D/M/F • 5-11 • 155 • Antioch Community • Antioch, Illinois


PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at Antioch Community High School.
•    Has served as team captain for each of the last two years.
•    Tallied six goals during first 12 games of senior season.
•    Scored a total of 10 goals over 20 starts during junior campaign.
•    Notched eight goals from position at left back over 20 games (17 starts) as a freshman.
•    Has competed with both the Chicago Magic Academy and FC United PDL Academy teams.
•    Member of both the math and Spanish honors society at Antioch Community High School.
•    Son of Scott and Heather Coleman and has one brother, Troy, and one sister, Courtney.
•    Sister, Courtney, plays soccer at UMass Lowell.

Ben Giacobello • M • 5-9 • 145 • San Clemente • San Clemente, California

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at San Clemente High School during sophomore season.
•    Was a varsity starter in only high school campaign, and was named first-team all-league after finishing second on the team in goals and assists.
•    Named to the OC Register Player to Watch list as part of a league championship finish.
•    Has competed with Strikers FC Academy of the USSDA at the U14, U16 and U18 level.
•    Club has traveled to international competition in both England and Spain, and also played in Supercup NI (formerly the Milk Cup) in Northern Ireland.
•    Two-time invitee to the U.S. Soccer Training Center.
•    Received AP Scholar with Distinction and National Merit Commendation honors during high school career.
•    Involved with both the Wounded Warrior Project and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes away from the field.
•    Born in Lyon, France.
•    Son of Scott and Monica Giacobello and has three brothers, Sam, Aidan and Owen.
•    Father, Scott, is a 1992 Notre Dame graduate.

Sam Guinane • GK • 6-3 • 185 • JSerra Catholic • San Juan Capistrano, California

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at JSerra Catholic High School.
•    Four-year varsity starter in goal who also served as a team captain during senior season.
•    Earned scholar-athlete honors in each of four seasons.
•    Also won a pair of letters playing football at JSerra Catholic.
•    Competes with West Coast FC on the club level.
•    West Coast FC finished as finalists of the Southern California Developmental Soccer League in 2017, adding California Regional League, National Cup and regional championships that year. Club was also a national finalist in 2017 following an unbeaten streak of more than 70 games.
•    West Coast FC added a Southern California Developmental Soccer League championship in 2016 and Surf Cup title in 2015.
•    Part of the Dean’s List Honor Roll during every high school semester, and was inducted into the National Honor Society.
•    Was selected as a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar in 2017-18.
•    Son of Tony and Renee Guinane and has one brother, Gabriel, and two sisters, Abigail and Lilly.
•    Father, Tony, played soccer at Chapman University.
•    Mother, Renee, played soccer at Irvine Valley College.

Jack Lynn • F • 6-2 • 177 • Chaminade College Preparatory • St. Louis, Missouri

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at Chaminade College Preparatory School.
•    Made the move exclusively to club soccer before senior year of high school.
•    Scored 20 goals and added six assists in 20 games as a junior.
•    Contributed 13 goals and seven assists over 28 games as a sophomore.
•    Finished with 13 goals and 11 assists in 25 games of debut season as a freshman.
•    Previously played with the Saint Louis Scott Gallagher/Saint Louis Football Academy of the USSDA from 2014-18.
•    Scored the tying goal against the USMNT U17s during an October 2016 friendly that club squad eventually won following a PK shootout.
•    Received AP Scholar with Distinction and National Merit Commendation honors during high school career.
•    Member of the National Honor Society, and winner of the Chaminade College Preparatory School Academic Scholarship.
•    Son of John and Jennifer Lynn and has one brother, James.
•    Father, John, played soccer at Saint Louis University.

Mohamed Omar • M • 6-3 • 182 • Berkshire School (Mass.) • Toronto, Ontario, Canada

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts.
•    Ranked as the top player in the state according to the New England Soccer Journal after scoring 13 goals and adding 15 assists as a senior.
•    Named MVP of the High School Soccer All-American Game in Orlando, Florida, and was an All-New England All-Star and named to the All-New England Best XI.
•    Scored 11 goals and chipped in eight assists as part of a 21-1-0 team as a junior that won the New England Class A title.
•    Contributed five goals and seven assists during an 18-3-0 season as a sophomore.
•    Scored two goals and chipped in three assists as a freshman for the New England Class A champion Berkshire that was the top-ranked team in the country.
•    Also played basketball and ran track in high school, and was a New England champion in the 4X400m relay.
•    Has competed with both Toronto FC III and Black Rock FC on the club circuit.
•    Was a semifinalist in the IMG Cup Super Group and finished as Connecticut State champions with Black Rock FC.
•    Won the OYSL and the International Youth Cup with Toronto FC III, also finishing as semifinalist of the Generation adidas Cup.
•    Serves as the Berkshire School All-School President that presides over Student Council, and has been on the academic honor roll each semester.
•    Winner of the Frederic S. Dean Award at Berkshire, given to the student who has made the greatest contribution during the school year.
•    Son of Suleiman Omar and Sahra Hussein and has two brothers, Hanad and Guleed.

Philip Quinton • D • 6-5 • 185 • Grant • Portland, Oregon

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at Grant High School.
•    Served as a team captain of the state semifinalist as a senior, earning first-team all-conference and second-team all-state accolades.
•    Also recognized on the all-conference first team and all-state second team as a junior team captain.
•    Earned second-team all-conference plaudits as part of the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) 6A champion as a sophomore.
•    Has also won varsity letters in track and cross country during high school, and finished second in the state of Oregon in the 800m as a junior.
•    Competes with FC Portland Academy on the club circuit.
•    Club squad finished as State Cup champions in 2013, State Cup finalists in 2012 and 2014 and State Cup semifinalists in both 2016 and 2017.
•    Member of the Junior St. Vincent de Paul organization.
•    Won the 2018 state championship with the Grant High School We the People Constitutional Team.
•    Named a 2016 Multnomah Athletic Club Scholar-Athlete.
•    Son of Patrick and Titia Quinton and has one brother, Pieter, and one sister, Annelies.
•    Father, Patrick, played soccer at Dartmouth College.
•    Mother, Titia, competed in crew at Yale.
•    Brother, Pieter, is a member of the heavyweight crew team at Harvard.

Tyler Shea • F • 5-10 • 155 • Jesuit College Preparatory School • Dallas, Texas

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner during freshman season at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas before making the move to club soccer full time.
•    Current member of the U19 Dallas Texans Soccer Club of the USSF.
•    Has competed with the Dallas Texans since the U15 level, and has made more than 50 appearances with the Texans since 2015-16.
•    Scored one goal over first 12 games (nine starts) of the 2017-18 season with the Dallas Texas U19s.
•    Received National Merit Commendation honors and the Jesuit Math Magis Award during high school career.
•    Volunteer with the Salvation Army and Jesuit Medical Society.
•    Son of Kevin and Krista Shea and has one brother, Ryan, and one sister, Bailey.
•    Father, Kevin, played soccer at Oklahoma State.
•    Mother, Krista, played soccer at Oklahoma.
•    Rob Snyder, a 1984 Notre Dame graduate and lead benefactor of Alumni Stadium, attended the same high school.

Bryan Silver • M • 6-1 • 150 • Oakton • Herndon, Virginia

PREP AND PERSONAL:
•    Letterwinner at Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia.
•    Voted to serve as a team captain for senior season.
•    Earned first-team all-region and all-district recognition as a junior.
•    Claimed first-team all-district accolades and second-team all-region plaudits for district championship team that reached the regional quarterfinals during sophomore season.
•    Three-time scholar-athlete honoree.
•    Plays with Loudoun 99 Red on the club circuit.
•    Club team won state championships in 2014, 2016 and 2017, the Region I championship in 2016, and were crowned ODP National Champions in 2016.
•    Member of the National Honor Society.
•    Son of Marc and Mary Silver and has a twin brother, Jonny, and a sister, Sammy.
•    Father, Marc, played tennis at Carnegie Mellon.
•    Uncle, Scott McKinney, played football at Duke.

Tony Jones, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2012 and coordinates all media efforts for the Notre Dame softball, men's soccer and swimming and diving programs. A native of Jamestown, New York, Jones is a 2011 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, and prior to arriving at Notre Dame held positions at the University of Louisiana Monroe and with the National Football League's Buffalo Bills.
