Three Men's Soccer Players Earn Great Lakes Regional Honors
Dec. 13, 2001 Three Notre Dame men's soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes regional teams. Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) was a first-team selection, while Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) and Devon Prescod (Marietta, Ga.) earned second and third team honors, respectively. Braun, a junior forward, led the Irish in scoring for the second time in three seasons as he finished the year with a team-leading 12 goals and three assists (27 points). A first-team All-BIG EAST selection and the 1999 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, scored a goal in all but two games in which the Irish scored a goal in during the 2001 campaign. Detter, also a first-team all-BIG EAST honoree this season, was Notre Dame's third-leading scorer with four goals and five assists (13 points). The sophomore midfielder was a member of the BIG EAST all-rookie team in 2000 and was one of three Irish players who started all 19 games in '01. Prescod, a sophomore forward, ended the season third in the scoring column with six goals while tying for a team-best six assists for 18 points. He played in all 19 contests and earned 18 starts. As a freshman, he started two of 12 games and scored a goal.
Notre Dame finished with a 12-7 record in '01 under first-year head coach Bobby Clark and made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996. The Irish earned a 7-3 BIG EAST record and finished tied for second in the final conference standings, its highest finish since becoming a conference member in 1995.
