NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Bob Gansler, a 2011 inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, will serve as a featured clinician at the 2013 National Soccer Coaching Seminar, to be held March 15-16 on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Gansler joins current United States Under-20 Women's National Team/University of Virginia women's soccer coach Steve Swanson as the featured clinicians at this year's event, along with a panel of other distinguished clinicians, including Notre Dame men's head coach Bobby Clark and Fighting Irish women's head coach/U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team coach Randy Waldrum.
One of the most respected coaches in American soccer history, Gansler has served in many different coaching positions for U.S. Soccer since 1975 and made his mark in 1989 & 1990 as he took over head coaching responsibilities for the United States Men's National Team, leading the Stars & Stripes to its first FIFA World Cup appearance in 40 years.
Gansler began his storied U.S. Soccer career as a player on the U.S. National Team and participated in the 1963 Pan American Games and Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in both 1964 & 1967, while making nearly every U.S. national team roster possible from 1962-69.
Gansler also achieved a great deal of success domestically, mainly in Major League Soccer, as he led the Kansas City Wizards to the 2000 MLS Cup title and Supporter's Shield, as well as the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship (all firsts in the history of the franchise, which is now known as Sporting Kansas City). Prior to his arrival in Kansas City, Gansler spent three seasons with the A-League's Milwaukee Rampage, piloting that club to the 1997 A-League title and eventually leading to his induction into both the United Soccer League and Milwaukee Rampage halls of fame in 2002.
Now retired, Gansler continues to work with a local youth club and is also still heavily involved with coaching education. A big believer that you can never learn it all, Gansler continues to share his enthusiasm and passion for the sport at different coaching courses around the country.
