ND Men's Swimming Falls Short Against St. Bonaventure
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Notre Dame's men's swimming team saw
its four-meet winning streak snapped Saturday in a close 118.5-112.5
loss at St. Bonaventure. The Irish were coming off a close 126-115 win
over Buffalo on Friday but St. Bonaventure held off Notre Dame's rally
for the win. The Irish had won four-straight dual meets since a loss to
Pittsburgh on November 15, but now stand at 6-4 with the loss.
Notre Dame fell behind early as St. Bonaventure won the first five
events to build a 59-34 lead before the Irish rallied. Freshman Herb
Huesman won Notre Dame's first event as he claimed the one-meter diving
and senior Ry Beville won the 200 butterfly to narrow the gap.
After St. Bonaventure won the 100 freestyle, sophomores Chris Fugate
and Jeff Page finished in the first one-two in the 200 backstroke for
Notre Dame. Two events later, Huesman won his second diving event of
the meet as he took first in the three-meter event to cap the Irish
rally and tie the score at 97.5 for each team.
St. Bonaventure then came back to win the final two events to close
out the win. Notre Dame returns to the pool with its final home dual
meet of the season against Western Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 7 at 4:00
p.m. at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
