Notre Dame Opens Season With Win At Western Ontario

London, Ontario -- Notre Dame's men's swimming team opened its 1996-97 dual meet season with a 101-62 win at Western Ontario. The Irish claimed seven of nine individual events as seven different Notre Dame swimmers won events.

Irish victories included: Sean Casey in the 800 freestyle; Brian Najarian in the 200 freestyle; Jeff Page in the 200 IM; Scott Zumbach in the 200 butterfly; Chris Fugate in the 200 backstroke; Rich Murphy in the 400 freestyle; and Antonio Fonseca in the 200 breaststroke.

The Irish also claimed both relays events as they won the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Notre Dame returns to the pool when they travel to intrastate rival Ball State on Saturday, Nov. 2.
