Irish Dive Into 1997 All-American Diving Championship
AUSTIN, Texas -- Notre Dame's men's and women's diving teams
concluded action at the 1997 All-American Diving Championship at the
Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas in Austin,
Texas.
Freshman Herb Huesman had the highest finish for Notre Dame and
second-year diving coach Caiming Xie. Huesman took fifth in the men's
three-meter competition with a score of 463.90. Tyler Maertz took 11th
in the preliminaries of the three meter with a score of 374.50. Huesman
finished in ninth place with 414.15 points in the men's one-meter diving
competition. Huesman narrowly missed making the finals as the top eight
scores from the preliminaries advanced to the finals.
In the women's competition, Gina Ketelhohn placed ninth in the
women's one-meter division with a score of 344.65, just 1.30 points out
of eighth place and a spot in the finals. Rhiana Saunders took 11th with
a score of 330.05. In the women's three-meter competition, Ketelhohn
was 13th with a score of 389.25, just ahead of Saunders who was 14th
with 385.70.
