AS A SENIOR: Closed out his Notre Dame career with three personal bests at the BIG EAST Championships ... personal records inluded performances of 1:48.79 in the 200 fly, 3:53.93 in the 400 IM and 2:01.99 in the 200 breast ... registered second consecutive season with an NCAA B-cut in the 400 IM with his 3:53.93 showing ... the 400 IM performance was good for a fifth-place finish while the 200 fly swim resulted in a seventh-place showing ... ended his Notre Dame career with seventh-fastest 400 IM swim in school history.
AS A JUNIOR:Set career bests at the BIG EAST Championships ... finished in fifth place in the 400 IM (3:55.45), eighth place in the 200 breast (2:02.32) and 15th place in the 200 IM (1:53.02) ... his 400 IM time was an NCAA B-cut ... career bests came in the preliminary session for all three events with times of 3:55.14 in the 400 IM, 2:02.03 in the 200 breast and 1:51.85 in the 200 IM ... swam to a season best time of 58.72 in the 100 breast at the Ohio State Invitational ... recipient of the Captains' Award ... amassed three top three finishes during the regular season ... dropped more than 10 seconds in the 200 breast and more than eight seconds in the 200 IM over the course of the season.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Sat out duration of the season due to injury.
AS A FRESHMAN:Came on strong late in the season for the Irish ... registered season-best times in all five events that he swam throughout the year at the BIG EAST Championships ... posted respective times of 58.15 and 2:03.44 in the 50 and 100 breast at the league meet ... finished the 400 IM in 3:58.91 ... his 100 breast performance at the BIG EAST meet was nearly two seconds faster than his previous season-best set at the Ohio State Invitational (1:00.10).
THE KOPPEL FILE: Broke the state record in the 200 IM (1:52.49) as a senior at Archmere (Del.) ... along with a title in that event, he finished runner-up in the 100 breast (58.11) at the state meet ... boasts prominent times in the 400 IM (3:59.89) and 200 breast (2:03.29) ... three-time team MVP in high school and gained All-America honors following his junior and senior seasons ... son of Donna and Peter Koppel ... born July 11, 1989 in Springfield, Va. ... his brother swims for Dartmouth ... graduated from the College of Engineering as a chemical engineering major.
