AS A SOPHOMORE: Versatile swimmer who competed in 11 different events ... among the team’s top-four performers in six events ... broke a University record at the Notre Dame Invitational in the 200 backstroke with time of 1:51.53 ... competed in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle along with the 800 free relay at the 1999 BIG EAST championships ... earned all-conference honors as a member of the third place 800 free relay team, which swam the team’s fastest time of the year of 6:46.54 ... placed eighth in the 1650 freestyle at the conference meet ... posted wins nine times in six different events during the 1998-99 season ... finished first in the 500 freestyle against defending national champion Stanford ... won three events, the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle, in the tri-meet against Army and Air Force ... recorded winning times in the 200 (1:42.91) and 500 (4:37.55) freestyle at the dual meet with Cleveland State ... placed first in the 400 IM and the 1650 freestyle at the Bill Ritter Invitational ... placed third or better each time he competed in 200 backstroke, including a win against Wisconsin-Milwaukee ... swam a career-best time of 4:35.35 in the 500 freestyle en route to a third place at the 1998 Notre Dame Invitational. AS A FRESHMAN: Made an immediate impact in the distance freestyle events ... held the Notre Dame record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:25.74 ... had third-place finish at the BIG EAST championships in the 1650 free ... won every time he competed in the 1000 free ... had team’s fastest time in the 1000 free and second fastest in the 1650 free ... had 10 top-four finishes in the 500 free as well as four wins ... two dual-meet wins against Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Rice both came in the 200 butterfly.
