ATLANTA, Georgia - Michael Bulfin (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) placed 18th in the preliminaries of the three-meter diving competition during the second day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon. The Notre Dame freshman placed 27th in one-meter prelims on Thursday.

Bulfin tallied 293.20 points from his six dives off the three-meter board on Friday afternoon. The freshman is just the third student-athlete in program history to compete in the NCAA meet and his finish marked the best-ever for an Irish competitor. Arizona State's Joona Puhakka finished first out of the 35-diver field with 416.20 points. The top eight divers advance to tonight's finals, while the top 16 overall score points.
