    LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Notre Dame men's swimming and diving squad traveled south to face the reigning BIG EAST Conference champions Saturday and fell on the short side of a 191-109 decision to host Louisville. Notre Dame's dual meet record dropped to 4-3 on the season after the loss.

    Sophomore Frank Dyer took home gold in the 50 and 500 free while freshman diver Michael Kreft also notched two victories for the Irish as he swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events. The Irish also collected a handful of second place individual finishes, including performances by senior Petar Petrovic (100 back), juniors Bill Bass (100 fly) and Ryan Koter (1-meter diving), Dyer (200 free) and freshmen Jimmy McEldrew (1,000 free, 200 back) and Nick Nemetz (3-meter diving).

    The Irish will continue their road trek by competing at the Iowa Invitational (swimming) and the Ohio State Invitational (diving) during the first week of December.

    200 Medley Relay: The Irish took third in 1:31.71 behind a pair of Louisville tandems.

    1,000 Free: McEldrew paced the Irish with a 9:21.53 showing which resulted in a second-place finish ... McEldrew was less than a second behind Louisville's Riley Martin.

    200 Free: Dyer and Louisville's Joao De Lucca were in a tight battle up until the finish ... De Lucca took the gold in 1:37.23 while Dyer settled for second in 1:37.91 ... both times were NCAA B-cuts.

    100 Back: Petrovic and sophomore Bertie Nel combined for a two-three finish with times of 50.59 and 51.42, respectively.

    100 Breast: Junior Christopher Johnson took home bronze for the Irish in 56.41.

     

     

    200 Fly: Freshman John Williamson led the Irish in 1:52.18 and a fourth-place finish ... juniors Tylor Gauger (1:53.69) and Bass (1:54.17) finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    50 Free: Dyer took home the first gold medal on the day for the Irish as he sprinted to a 20.27 finish for his second NCAA B-cut of the day.

    100 Free: Junior John McGinley led all Irish swimmers with a fourth-place finish in 46.47.

    200 Back: McEldrew raced to his second silver medal on the day with a 1:49.87 performance ... Nel (1:51.51), Petrovic (1:53.95) and Matthew DeBlasio (1:55.20) wrapped up the Irish effort as they finished in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    200 Breast: Freshman Zach Stephens was the first Notre Dame swimmer to touch the pad for a bronze medal in 2:03.93.

    500 Free: Dyer won his second event on the day as he took gold in 4:27.86 ... freshmen John Nappi (4:40.45) and Kevin Hughes (4:44.09) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

    100 Fly: Bass was good for silver honors as he clocked in at 49.98 ... Williamson touched the wall in fourth at 50.99.

    200 IM: Bass and Stephens recorded a three-four finish for the Irish, respectively, with times of 1:52.06 and 1:53.76.

    400 Free Relay: The foursome of Dyer, Kevin Overholt, Stephens and McGinley took second for the Irish in 3:01.83.

    1-meter Diving: Kreft and junior Ryan Koter took to a one-two finish for the Irish with totals of 280.42 and 276.00 points, respectively.

    3-meter Diving: Kreft made it 2-for-2 on the afternoon as he took the 3-meter diving event with a total score of 311.25 ... Nemetz took the silver with 296.48 points.
