Notre Dame Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Ball State
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Freshman James Scott-Browne set a new Irish record in the 1000-yard freestyle and captured another first in the 500-yard freestyle as the Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team handily defeated Ball State University by a score of 144.5-98.5 on Friday, October 31. The Irish trailed only after the first event and captured the top three places in four separate races, as they ended a four meet losing streak against Ball State. Scott-Browne's time of 9:35.93 in the 1000-yard freestyle eclipsed the old Irish mark of 9:36.75 set back in 1993. Junior Scott Zumbach was the only other double winner for Notre Dame as he captured firsts in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Herb Huesman finished first in the three-meter diving competition and took second place in the one-meter diving competition, and Ray Fitzpatrick captured first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.22.
