Irish Improve to 3-0 With Victory Over Rice

HOUSTON, Tex. ---- The Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team remained undefeated in dual meet competition as the Irish improved to 3-0 on the season with a 124-77 victory over Rice. Notre Dame won eight of 11 events in the meet for the win.

Junior Chris Fugate was a double winner for the Irish as he claimed the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.24 and was a member of Notre Dame's victorious 400 yard medley relay team which finished with a time of 3:32.77.

Scott Zumbach and Vince Kuna each won an event and took second in another. Zumbach won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.78 and was second in the 200 yard backstroke as he finished with a time of 1:56.67. Kuna took first place in the 50 yard freestyle (21.94) and placed second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 48.74.

Six different Irish swimmers won the first six events in the meet.

Notre Dame returns to action tomorrow night when the Irish swim Texas Christian in a dual meet at Rice University.
