NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
Coming off its winter training session, the Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team returns to action Saturday with a dual meet at Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium against the 16th-ranked Cardinals. Notre Dame (3-3) saw its last competitive action - excluding an informal meet during the team's training in Puerto Rico - at the Ohio State Invitational from Dec. 5-7. It was there that the Irish placed fourth among the 12-team field.
"We've had a hard and lengthy training trip and hope to do well Saturday against Louisville being five weeks removed from competition," head coach Tim Welsh said. "Obviously, we want to see where we stand as a team. But more importantly, we want to race with intensity. This could be a preview of things to come at the BIG EAST Championships."
The Irish claimed the 2008 BIG EAST Conference team title with Louisville taking second. However, the Cardinals came out on top of the regular-season tilt, 169-134, in January of last year. It was the first dual-meet victory for Louisville in the last five meetings between the league rivals.
The meet's first horn will sound at 12 p.m. (ET).
