Fighting Irish To Host Shamrock Dual Meet Invitational This Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the Shamrock Dual Meet Invitational this Friday (Jan. 26) and Saturday (Jan. 27) in the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The three-session meet begins at 6:00 p.m. (ET) on Friday, while Saturday will feature a morning session at 10:00 a.m. and an evening session beginning at 5:00 p.m. This will be the final home event of the season for both the Irish men and women.

Joining the Fighting Irish in the pool will be Connecticut, Oakland, Penn State and West Virginia. There will be 40 events in all (20 per gender) and the meet will be scored as a quadruple dual meet. Notre Dame won last year's event by topping No. 22 Penn State 197-173, Missouri 226-144, Oakland 261-106 and Louisville 277-91.

The Notre Dame men are currently 8-1 in dual-meet action and ranked 16th in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) dual-meet rankings. The Irish jumped out to an 8-0 start to the season before suffering a 167-131 setback to No. 8 Northwestern last Saturday in the Rolfs Aquatic Center.

Sophomore diver Michael Bulfin (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) captured wins off both the one-meter and three-meter boards against the Wildcats. He registered 317.77 points off the one-meter board and 346.80 in the three-meter competition. Freshman Andrew Deters (Claremont, Calif./Clarmont) also posted a victory for the Fighting Irish as he won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:39.88.

Senior Ted Brown (Kokomo, Ind./Western) had two runner-up finishes for the Notre Dame. He was second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:39.65 and also placed second in the 500-yard free by touching the wall in 4:33.96. Brown leads the Irish with nine individual victories on the season.

Following this weekend's competition, the Irish return to the pool on Saturday, Feb. 3 when they travel to BIG EAST foe Louisville for a dual meet scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
