NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team has recently been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as one of the nation's top academic performing squads. The group joins 84 other male teams from across the country to receive the accolade.

Under the tutelage of Tim Welsh, the Irish men were able to amass a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.19, surpassing the minimum 3.0 grade-point-average requirement to receive the recognition. The 3.19 earned the team the 12th highest team grade-point-average during the fall semester.

"We're excited to earn this award semester after semester," Welsh said. "The fall was a very strong academic session for the team, especially given the size of our large freshmen class. We're happy to be ranked and look forward to continue doing a great job in the classroom and pool."

Notre Dame now heads to the 2009 BIG EAST Conference Championships held in Indianapolis next week (Feb. 18-21). The Irish hope to defend their team title from last season.
