Two of the three Notre Dame men's swimming team qualifiers at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials competed over the weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. Seniors Ryan Verlin (Rye, N.Y.) and Dan Szilier (Norristown, Pa.) saw action on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Junior Jonathan Pierce (Newburgh, Ind.) will swim the 1,500-meter freestyle on the last day of the trials Aug. 15.

Szilier, the university record holder in the 200 breaststroke, finished 29th in 2:21.70 in the 200-meter breaststroke preliminaries. Verlin, the school-record holder in the 200-yard butterfly, took 74th in 2:06.54 in the preliminaries of the 200-meter butterfly.
