NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The BIG EAST runner-up Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team has announced its 1999-2000 schedule and roster for the upcoming season.

Led by head coach Tim Welsh, now in his 15th-year at the helm, the Irish kick off the first of seven home meets with the season-opening Notre Dame Relays, Friday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The team then hits the road for a fall break trip to Air Force (Oct. 21) and Colorado State (Oct. 22-23).

Sandwiched between a short trip to BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh (Nov. 13), the Irish play host to Texas Christian University (Nov. 6) and the three-day Notre Dame Invitational, December 2-4.

After spending part of its winter break in Phoenix, Ariz., Notre Dame travels to Cleveland, Ohio for a tri-meet with Cleveland State and Niagara, followed by the Bill Ritter Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. The Irish turn around to play host to three straight dual meets with Milwaukee-Wisconsin (January 28), Oakland University (January 29) and St. Bonaventure (February 5).

Following a two-week break, the Irish will look to improve upon last year's best-ever runner-up finish at the BIG EAST championships in Uniondale, N.Y., February 17-19.

After the BIG EAST championships, Notre Dame plays host to its final home meet of the year, the Shamrock Classic, February 26-27, followed by the NCAA Zone C diving meet (March 10-11) and the NCAA championships (March 23-25), which will both be held in Minneapolis, Minn.

The 1999-2000 Notre Dame men's swimming and diving squad, led by senior captains Sean Casey and Ray Fitzpatrick, returns 14 of its 18 monogram-winners from last year's squad, which went 4-4 overall.
