Men's Swimming
Irish Return To Ohio State Invitational
Dec. 4, 2008
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team returns to the Ohio State Invitational this weekend (Dec. 5-7) after coming home with a fourth-place finish in the 2007 edition of the event. The Irish (3-3) join the host Buckeyes, Cleveland State, Minnesota and Penn State in the pool with Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State, South Carolina and Duke squaring off against Notre Dame on the diving side. "In a lot of ways this is the focal point of the fall semester," Irish head coach Tim Welsh said. "It's the first time this season we will have a chance to swim in prelims and finals in the same event on the same day - a similar format to the BIG EAST Conference and NCAA Championships. It will give us insight as to how our preparation is working for the year-end championships. "The team has been very, very consistent and steady throughout the fall. The athletic training and academic load have steadily increased alongside each other. We've joked about this in years past - but it's more true than false - that we take our swimming finals first. In academic terms, this is our final exam. And when we come back, we'll take more finals in the classroom." Admission to the event is free of charge. Live meet scoring and results will be available at UND.com. For up-the-minute results and scores, sign up for IRISH ALERTS text messaging services at UND.com
