Notre Dame Men's Tennis Ups Record to 4-0 with Two Wins
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame's men's tennis team improved
to 4-0 on the season with two wins Saturday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
The Irish blanked DePaul 6-0 in the first match of the day and defeated
Miami (Ohio) 5-1 in the second match. A win over Illinois, who travel
to Notre Dame for a 6:00 p.m. matchup on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Eck
Tennis Pavilion, would give head coach Bobby Bayliss and the Irish their
best start since the 1992 team started 6-0 and finished second in the
country.
Against DePaul, the Irish swept all six singles matches, losing just
one set at No. 4 singles where Dan Rothschild won a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 match.
Freshman Ryan Sachire won at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over
Alan Pintaric. Brian Patterson, Ryan Simme, Eric Enloe and Vijay
Freeman was Notre Dame's other winners.
Rothschild, the last singles player to win against DePaul, wasted no
time against Miami as he was the first Notre Dame player to win as he
beat Amin Nabli 6-1, 6-1 to give the Irish a 1-0 lead. Sachire, playing
No. 2 singles, won a 6-4, 6-0 match. Enloe, Freeman and Simme also won
