Texas Men's Tennis Team Defeats Irish 4-3
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - No. 7 Texas won two of three doubles
matches en route to defeating No. 29 Notre Dame 4-3 Saturday afternoon
in men's tennis at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Longhorns improved to
3-2 while the Irish fell to 6-2.
Notre Dame junior Jakub Pietrowski and sophomore Brian Patterson
each won individual matches and combined to win their doubles match over
B.J. Stearns and Mark Loughrin 9-8. Pietrowski, playing No. 1 singles,
rallied from a set down to defeat Stearns 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 while Patterson
won in straight sets over Jack Brasington 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Notre Dame also scored a team point when freshmen Ryan Sachire
recorded a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) victory over Nick Crowell in No. 2 singles.
But it wasn't enough as the Longhorns which won the doubles point and
split the six singles matches.
The Irish are back in action tomorrow when they host Duke at the Eck
Tennis Pavilion. The match is set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
