Notre Dame Edges Northwestern
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame men's tennis
team posted a 4-3 win over Northwestern on Wednesday afternoon to
improve its record to 16-4 on the season and win its third-straight
match and seventh in its last eight tries. Notre Dame is ranked No.
11 in the country while the Wildcats, ranked No. 22 in the country,
are 11-5. Notre Dame also remains unbeaten in regional play with an
11-0 record.
The Irish opened the match by winning two of the three doubles
matches to get the doubles point and the two teams split the six
singles matches as the Irish escaped with the victory. Notre Dame
picked up singles wins from freshman Ryan Sachire at No. 1, who is
ranked No. 42 in the country, sophomore Brian Patterson at No. 4 and
junior Danny Rothschild at No. 5. Sachire and Rothschild keyed the
Notre Dame victory as they posted wins in both doubles and singles.
