CORAL GABLES, Fla. --  A lost doubles point proved crucial in yet another one-point match for the University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team, as the Irish fell to Atlantic Coast Conference host Miami on Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

How It Happened

The Hurricanes (8-9, 2-6 ACC) won the doubles point, snaring identical 6-3 wins on Courts 1 and 3 to take an early advantage.

Miami went up 2-0 when Max Andrews defeated Irish freshman Matt Gamble 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 position. But the Irish (12-9, 2-4 ACC) came right back to tie it up, with sophomore Alex Lebedev defeating Jesse Flores 6-3, 6-3 on Court 4 and freshman Guillermo Cabrera winning 6-4, 6-2 over Nile Clark on Court 5.

The Hurricanes regained the lead when Christian Langmo came back to defeat senior Eddy Covalschi in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. But sophomore Grayson Broadus mounted a comeback of his own to even it back up, winning 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Dane Dunlap, setting the stage for a winner-take-all match on Court 1.

Senior Josh Hagar had forced a third set at the No. 1 position, but was unable to sustain the momentum in the decider, falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to No. 51 Piotr Lomacki, with the Hurricanes winning in the process.

Up Next

The Irish will head to North Carolina next weekend, where they will face both Duke and North Carolina on Friday and Sunday, respectively
