Sachire Bows Out at Men's Tennis Championships

May 29, 1998

ATHENS, Ga. - Notre Dame sophomore Ryan Sachire dropped a tough three-set match in the third round of the NCAA men's tennis championship in Athens, Ga. Sachire fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to Oklahoma State's Pavel Kudrnac, the top-seeded player in the 64-player draw. Sachire earned All-America honors based on being seeded among the top nine-16 players in the field. He becomes Notre Dame's first men's tennis All-American since Andy Zurcher and Todd Wilson were doubles All-Americans in 1994.

The Irish doubles team of junior Brian Patterson and senior Jakub Pietrowski dropped a second round match 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to Pepperdine's seeded team of Kelly Gullett and Robert Lindstedt.
