The Notre Dame men’s and women’s tennis teams beat dropped a tight 26-24 match to South Carolina in the quarterfinals of the WingspanBank.com/WORLD TEAM TENNIS National Collegiate Championships on Saturday at Stanford University. The team of Michelle Dasso, Trent Miller, Ryan Sachire and Kelly Zalinski was set to play Tennessee in a match late Saturday night for a chance to play for fifth-place on Sunday in the 16-team field.

South Carolina built a 12-7 lead with wins at women’s doubles and men’s singles before the Irish rallied to cut the to 20-19 entering the final set. Miller and Sachire teamed to beat Jerome Jourdan and Olof Akesson 6-4 in men’s doubles before Dasso beat Katrina Markowski 6-4 in women’s singles. Dasso and Miller lost mixed doubles set 6-5 with a 5-2 score in the tiebreaker to Jourdan and Radman as the Gamecocks advanced to the semifinals.

Men’s singles: Jerome Jourdan (SC) def. Ryan Sachire (ND) 6-4 (12-7)

Men’s doubles: Trent Miller/Sachire (ND) def. Jourdan/Olof Akesson (SC) 6-4 (16-13)

Women’s Singles: Dasso (ND) def. Markowski (SC) 6-4 (20-19)

Mixed doubles: Jourdan/Radman (SC) def. Dasso/Miller (ND) 6-5 (5-2) (26-24)
