Men's Tennis Posts 10-2 Mark At Tribe Invitational
Oct. 30, 1999 The Notre Dame men's tennis team compiled a 10-2 record in singles on the second day of William & Mary's 1999 Tribe Indoor Men's Tennis Invitational. Senior two-time All-American Ryan Sachire led the Irish with a pair of wins in the No. 1 singles draw. He beat Old Dominion's Patrick Boza 6-2, 6-3 and then held on for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over William & Mary's Jody Strik in his second match. Junior Matt Daly won a pair of straight-set matches in the No. 2 draw. He downed Old Dominion's Alexandre Cancado 6-4, 6-4 and William & Mary's Patrick Brown 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Casey Smith split two matches at No. 3 singles. Smith came back from 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 loss to Old Dominion's Hieronymus Rodriguez to beat William & Mary's Chris Erikson 6-1, 6-4. Sophomores Andrew Laflin and Javier Taborga each won at No. 4 singles. Laflin won a tight 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 match over Old Dominion's Rodrigo Laender before Taborga beat William & Mary's Mehdy Karbid 7-5, 7-6. Laflin then lost 6-3, 6-3 to William & Mary's Brian Lubin at No. 5 singles. Freshman Brian Farrell defeated Old Dominion's Nikola Laca 6-1, 7-6.
Sophomore Aaron Talarico won twice at No. 6 singles. He rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over
William & Mary's Alexander Soeters and then won 6-4, 6-3 over William & Mary's Tim Csontos.
