Ryan Sachire Falls in Semifinals At ITA Singles Championships

Notre Dame senior All-American men’s tennis player Ryan Sachire lost a 6-4, 6-1 match to Iowa’s third-seeded Tyler Cleveland in the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region IV Singles championships. The top-seeded Sachire had beaten sophomore teammate Javier Taborga 6-2, 6-1 in Sunday’s quarterfinals to reach the semifinals. The loss to Sachire ended a run in which the unseeded Taborga’s run in which he defeated the No. 1 players from Indiana and Minnesota in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals.

The loss ends Notre Dame’s fall season, with the season resuming in January with the beginning of the dual-match season. The Irish open against Washington on January 21, 2000, at the Ice Volleys Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
