Carroll Advances to Flight D Singles Final at Tom Fallon Invitational
NOTRE DAME, Ind. ---- Junior Dennis Carroll earned a spot in tomorrow's final of Flight D singles at the Tom Fallon Invitational and will meet Fernando Garcia of Western Michigan tomorrow in the championship. Carroll won two matches on day two of the three-day Tom Fallon Invitational being played at the Courtney Tennis Courts.
Carroll advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Evan Hayes of Purdue in the semifinal match. He was also pushed to three sets in his quarterfinal match as he beat Graham Cross of Colorado 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.
Another Irish tennis player also advanced into the finals of his flight. Matt Horsley will play in the consolation finals of Flight A singles. He is scheduled to face DePaul's Lukas Horacek.
Mark Overdevest advanced into the semifinals of Flight B singles before losing to Robert Collins of Rice 6-1, 6-3 in their semifinal match. Overdevest beat Steve Brizendine of Purdue in the quarterfinals. Vijay Freeman advanced to the quarterfinals in that same bracket, but lost today in his match to Markus Bergerheim of Nebraska in three sets 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Matt Daly was a loser in the quarterfinals of Flight C singles to Marlo Vicente of Drake 6-4, 6-4.
Carroll and Eric Enloe lost in the third round of Flight B doubles as they lost to the Purdue tandem of Steve Brizendine and Dan Swan 8-2.
The three-day tournament concludes on Sunday, September 28. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
