Men's Tennis Falls to Kentucky 4-3
No. 11 Wildcats Narrowly Get by No. 23 Irish
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame's 23rd-ranked men's tennis team lost to 11th-ranked Kentucky 4-2 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion on Wednesday as the Wildcats won the doubles point to start the match and then won three of the singles matches for the win. With the loss the Irish fall to 3-2 while Kentucky improves to 6-0.
Kentucky's No. 1 doubles team of Johan Hesoun and Marcus Fluitt beat Notre Dame's fourth-ranked team of Brian Patterson and Jakub Pietrowski 8-6 to clinch the doubles point. Fluitt then beat Pietrowski 6-2, 6-0 in singles and Edo Bowano beat Eric Enloe 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Notre Dame's Andy Warford led Dan Spaner 5-2 at No. 6 singles and was in control of the match when he was forced to retire with a sprained ankle. Ryan Sachire and Dan Rothschild gave Notre Dame its only points with three-set wins. Patterson and Drada's match was suspended at one set each.
Notre Dame returns to the court on Friday, at the Eck Tennis Pavilion when it plays host to Ohio State.
