Notre Dame Defeats Purdue, 6-1
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame's men's tennis team improved to 6-2 on the season with a 6-1 win over Purdue on Saturday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Irish swept the doubles for one point and won five of the six singles matches for the win.
The Irish No. 2 doubles team of Dan Rothschild and Vijay Freeman saved five match points at 7-8 and another at 5-6 in the tiebreaker before winning in a tiebreaker on their first match point to help Notre Dame to the sweep. In singles, Rothschild improved to 8-0 in dual matches in 1998 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jason Marshall. Other winners for Notre Dame were Ryan Sachire at No. 1 singles, Brian Patterson at No. 3, Eric Enloe at No. 5 and Matt Horsley at No. 6. Purdue's Cris James beat Jakub Pietrowski 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
