Irish Tennis Finds Success at Rolex Invitational

Hall pulls off upset for women, men make consolation rounds

DALLAS - Notre Dame junior women's tennis player Jennifer Hall pulled off an upset early Friday before falling in the afternoon quarterfinals at the 1998 Rolex National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in Dallas, Texas. Hall dropped her quarterfinal match 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to Zuzana Lesenarova from San Diego in the 32-player draw which features the top collegiate tennis players in the country.

She had advanced to the quarterfinals by rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 upset of second-seeded Agnes Muzamel of Mississippi in the second round before falling to Lesenarova. Freshman Michelle Dasso, eliminated from singles on Thursday, won her consolation match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Fresno States Dora Djilianova.

The fourth-seeded Irish men's doubles team of Brian Patterson and Jakub Pietrowski lost their opening match 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 to Kelly Gullet and Robert Lindstedt of Pepperdine. The duo then rallied to advance to the consolation finals, beating Frank Potthoff and Laio Teixeira of Lander and Alexander Waske and Frank Morgan of San Diego State in consolation matches.

Sophomore Ryan Sachire, eliminated from singles on Thursday, won two consolation matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tulsas Nenad Toroman and Lee Pearson of Auburn 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the consolation finals.
