Irish Doubles Team Wins Rolex Consolation

DALLAS, Texas -- Notre Dame's fourth-seeded men's doubles team of Brian
Patterson and Jakub Pietrowski beat Duke's Doug Root and Jordan Wile 6-1, 6-2 to
win the doubles consolation at the 1998 Rolex National Indoor Intercollegiate
Championships at SMU.
The Irish duo had lost in the first round of the main
draw on Thurday, but rallied for a pair of wins on Friday to advance to
Saturday's consolation championship match.
In the men's singles draw, Irish sophomore Ryan Sachire lost to VCU's Daniel
Anderson 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the semifinals of the consolation. He had won a pair
of matches on Friday after losing in the first round on Thursday.
