Notre Dame Loses to Texas
AUSTIN, Texas -- Notre Dame's 14th-ranked men's tennis team lost a tight 4-3 match at seventh-ranked Texas on Saturday, in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns won the doubles point and then won the last three singles matches to clinch the win. The Irish fall to 14-5 with the loss while Texas improves to 19-2. The loss marked the fourth straight year the Irish have dropped a 4-3 match to Texas and the second straight year Texas entered the match as the seventh-ranked team in the country.
Texas won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to win the doubles point and won in straight sets at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles for the 4-3 win. Sophomore Ryan Sachire, senior Jakub Pietrowski and junior Brian Patterson won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 for Notre Dame's three points.
Notre Dame will face its second consecutive top-10 opponent when the Irish travel to sixth-ranked and regional-rival Illinois for a 2:00 p.m. match on Monday, April 13. Notre Dame is 10-0 against Illinois under 11th-year head coach Bobby Bayliss.
