NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
University of Notre Dame men's tennis player Greg Andrews kicked off the 2013 spring season by earning BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year helped the Irish off to a 2-0 start with a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Marquette and Western Illinois last Saturday. The No. 80 Andrews went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.
Andrews, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Month for October, started the season off with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, teaming with partner Spencer Talmadge to knock off Marquette's Dan Mamalat and Vukasin Teofanovic. In No. 1 singles he took down Mamalat, 6-4, 6-4. Later in the day Andrews dropped Western Illinois' Christoph Haertel, 6-1, 6-2.
The Richland, Mich., native has now earned four BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week scrolls after being honored three times in 2012.
Andrews and the No. 30 Irish return to action Tuesday night with a 6 p.m. match against No. 37 Northwestern.
