Freshman Quentin Monaghan is 5-1 so far this spring season in doubles.

Feb. 11, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Winners of three of its last four matches, the No. 29 University of Notre Dame men's tennis team hits the road again for a Tuesday matchup with the No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Ky.

The Irish (5-3) and the Wildcats (6-1) meet at 1 p.m. at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center.

Notre Dame is coming off an impressive 6-1 win over No. 48 Michigan State on the road Saturday where it won five of six singles matches in straight sets. The Irish have already played five teams ranked in the ITA's top 50, and have earned wins over two ranked foes - No. 31 Memphis and the No. 48 Spartans.

Kentucky has already topped three ITA top-25 teams and four ITA top-50 squads. The Wildcats are also 5-0 at home this season. The squad boasts three ranked singles players - Tom Jomby (No. 15), Anthony Rossi (No. 94) and Juan Pablo Murra (No. 97) - and one ranked doubles team - Jomby and Kevin Lai (No. 35).

The Wildcats have seen strong play at the top of their lineup so far this season as Rossi (6-1) and Jomby (5-1) are a combined 11-2 during the spring season. At five, Charles Minc brings a 4-0 record into the match.

Last year Kentucky snuck out of Eck Tennis Pavilion with a 4-3 win in a thrilling match that went down to the wire.

NOTES

Irish student-athletes at three and five singles have earned victories in all five Notre Dame wins.

Greg Andrews (6-1), Quentin Monaghan (5-1) and Ryan Bandy (4-0) have gotten off to a solid start this season at one, three and six singles, respectively.

Going back to the fall season, senior Michael Moore (six), Michael Fredericka (four) and Ryan Bandy (four) have the longest singles winning streaks on the team.

Along those same lines, Moore (8-1) and Monaghan (8-1) have the best record over their last 10 singles matches of anyone on the team.

Notre Dame is 5-0 when it wins the doubles point and 0-3 when it loses it.

All three regular doubles units have a .500 record heading into the UK match.
