NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 31 University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team is headed back to Columbus, Ohio for the fifth time in six seasons for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship, the NCAA men’s tennis selection committee announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Irish (19-7) meet No. 33 Washington (17-11) Friday, May 10, with the winner playing the winner of No. 5 Ohio State (31-2) and Cleveland State (12-11) Saturday, May 11 for the right to advance to the Round of 16 at the University of Illinois.

With the appearance the Irish will have played in Columbus six times in the last three years, battling the Buckeyes in both the regular season and NCAA Championship. It marks the fifth time in six years Notre Dame has traveled to the Varsity Tennis Courts for the NCAA Championship. The Irish also played there in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Last year Notre Dame defeated No. 40 Vanderbilt, 4-3, before losing to the Buckeyes, 4-0.

Notre Dame is coming off its ninth BIG EAST title and is set to appear in the NCAA Championship for the 22nd time in school history. All 22 appearances have come in the last 23 years under the watchful eye of ITA Hall of Fame head coach and 2013 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Bobby Bayliss.

Notre Dame has reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships on seven occasions, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 1992 and a 1993 quarterfinal result. The Irish lost in the opening round in 2004, '05, '08 and '09, but reached the round of 16 in 2006 and '07.

The draws for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be announced at 6 p.m. Wednesday. For more information on the NCAA Championship, continue to check back with UND.com or follow the Irish on Facebook (facebook.com/NDMensTennis) and on Twitter (@NDMensTennis).
