NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- Senior Greg Andrews is no stranger to honors. The University of Notre Dame men's tennis player was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2011 and BIG EAST Player of the Year back to back in 2012 and 2013. This season, he was Co-ACC Player of the Week, named first-team All-ACC, and at Notre Dame's O.S.C.A.R.S. ceremony, he won both the Byron V. Kanaley Award and the Francis Patrick O'Connor Award.

This week, as the Irish head to Athens, Ga., to face No. 4 Virginia in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association is adding another couple honors to Andrews' list. The ITA announced today that Andrews has been awarded both the Midwest Most Improved Senior of the Year and the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship & Leadership Award.

The Arthur Ashe Award is especially meaningful, as the honor dates back to 1982 and goes to players who have exhibited outstanding scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

"We are extremely happy for and proud of Greg for winning these two prestigious awards," says head coach Ryan Sachire. "When you look at the criteria for the two different awards, you begin to realize how much of a total package Greg is. The Most Improved Senior award is a pure reflection of Greg's elite tennis ability and the amount of on-court improvement that he has made since coming to Notre Dame, while the Arthur Ashe award is a testament to his leadership, sportsmanship and character. Greg is such a talented young man, and he has done so many great things during his time in our program. It's awesome to see him get the recognition he deserves."

Following the NCAA Team Championship, Andrews will also be playing in the Singles Championship and Doubles Championship, along with partner sophomore Alex Lawson. The Irish will take on Virginia at noon on Friday, May 16.
