Feb. 28, 2005
The Notre Dame hockey team recently participated in two events involving the Monogram Club and the hockey program's alumni: a postgame reception in Chicago during late January and an early-February alumni reunion weekend that corresponded with Notre Dame's home series versus Nebraska-Omaha.
The Jan. 22 event was held after a record-setting crowd of 8,317 (most ever to watch a college hockey game in Chicago) braved a winter storm to cheer on Notre Dame and Wisconsin at the AllState Arena. Many Notre Dame alumni were in attendance and stayed after the game to host a function for the current Irish icers. More than 200 fans of Notre dame hockey gathered for the "meet-and-greet" reception after the game, held in the AllState Arena's Skyline Room.
The postgame function was hosted by the Notre Dame Club of Chicago and was organized primarily by Monogram Club board members Rick Pullano (baseball), Dave Bossy (hockey) and fellow hockey alum John Barry. Many youth hockey teams also were in attendance and had the chance to collect autographs from the Irish players.
The reunion events two weekends later (held during the season for the first time ever) included an informal postgame gathering for the Irish hockey alums at the Legends on-campus restaurant, after the Friday-night game on Feb. 4. The alums then played a scrimmage on the Joyce Center ice on the afternoon of Sat., Feb. 5, followed by a mass, a pregame reception in the Monogram Room and attendance at the game that night between the Irish and the Mavericks. The alums were asked to stand during a break in the action and received applause from the Joyce Center crowd. There also was a postgame reception in the Monogram Room for the alums, current players and their parents.
The following Notre Dame hockey alums (including players and others who worked closely with the program) were in attendance for the reunion weekend: John Barry, Nate Borega, Joe Bowie, Paul Clarke, Dean Daigler, Bob Dieckelman, Bill Green, Eric Gregoire, Ed Hums, Chris Kleva, Les Larson, Billy Lerman, Mark Longar, Pat McMahon, Mike McNeill, Tim McNeill, Bruce Raskob, Thomas Shannon, Peter Sullivan, Greg Switaj and Brian Walsh.
