Since its dedication at the Monogram Club Annual Mass in spring 2008, the Monogram Candle has maintained a perpetual light at the Grotto in tribute to, and in remembrance of, Notre Dame student-athletes and Club members.

As one of the five pillars of the Notre Dame athletics department, "Faith" is an integral part of the Athletes of Notre Dame, both past and present. Rooted in the University's traditional Catholic belief in the power of prayer, this special blue candle provides Club members and current student-athletes with a spiritual resource as they reflect on their own lives and seek spiritual guidance at the Grotto. A quiet sanctuary surrounded in the glow of candles reflecting prayer, the Grotto has provided a place of solace, comfort and reflection for many years.

Marc Kelly, who served as president of the Monogram Club from 2007-2009, said, "I am humbled and honored that the Monogram Club ensures that this sacred candle stays lit 24/7 at the Grotto. It is especially gratifying that our members can take great solace in knowing that we have a special candle in the Grotto in honor of all the prayer requests of Monogram Club members."

At a University that celebrates our faith, and an athletics department that honors tradition, the Monogram Candle at the Grotto reflects both - uniting us in community, prayer and outreach to others.
