Riley Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the Third Consecutive Week
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame freshman RUTH RILEY (Roann, Ind.) has
been honored for the third consecutive week as the BIG EAST Rookie of the
Week. She shared the honor with Svetlana Abrosimova of Connecticut, as she
averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
Against Syracuse, RILEY registered career-highs of 29 points and 13
rebounds, which marked the fifth straight game she had posted a
double-double to become the first Irish women's basketball player record
five straight double-doubles. She 13-15 shooting from the field in 32
minutes of play. In the Providence game, RILEY scored in double figures
for the sixth straight game as she scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds
and blocked four shots.
RILEY, who has played in all 18 games and started the last 12 contests, has
been in double figures in eight games and has grabbed 10-plus rebounds six
times. She also has netted 20-plus points in two games.
She currently is averaging 9.9 points and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds in
addition to leading the Irish in blocked shots (44).
Notre Dame, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, is 13-5 overall and 7-3
in the BIG EAST.
