Peirick, Riley Receive BIG EAST Honors
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Notre Dame guard Mollie Peirick was named All-BIG EAST third-team honors and center Ruth Riley was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team by a vote of the league's head coaches. The awards were announced at the BIG EAST Conference women's basketball banquette held on the eve of the opening of the conference tournament.
Peirick, a senior from Eureka, Mo., is second on the Irish squad in scoring at 11.7 points per game while dishing out a team-high 6.0 assists per contest. She is the only player to start every Notre Dame game this season.
A Roann, Ind. native, Riley averages 10.7 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds as a freshman this season. She has recorded nine double-doubles and has scored in double figures in 12 of her last 14 games.
Peirick and Riley have helped Notre Dame compile an 18-8 record overall and a 12-6 record in conference games entering the BIG EAST Tournament. The Irish open play in the league tournament, which will be held at Louis Brown Athletic Center and hosted by Rutgers University, tomorrow at 2 p.m. against St. John's.
