Henderson Selected to Play on BIG EAST/Nike Women's Basketball All-Star Team
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame sophomore center JULIE HENDERSON (Ann Arbor, Mich.) has been one of 12 players named to the 1998 BIG EAST/Nike Women's Basketball All-Star Team. The six-game competitive tour of Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic will run from May 28-June 7.
This is the ninth consecutive year that The BIG EAST Conference is sending a women's basketball all-star squad abroad. Prior to their departure, the players will attend a pre-tour training camp at Seton Hall. Among the teams the all-stars will face are the Austrian National Team and USK Prague, considered to be the second best team in the Czech Republic.
HENDERSON played in 30 games for the Irish during the 1997-98 campaign and started the first six games of the season. She helped Notre Dame to a 22-10 mark and an appearance in the Sweet 16 after the Irish upset top-seeded Texas Tech 74-59 in a second round contest.
HENDERSON averaged 4.1 points and 3.0 rebounds and netted double figures in three contests. She scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in Notre Dame's first round victory over St. John's in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Miami head coach Ferne Labati will direct the 12-member squad which is comprised to one representative from each BIG EAST school except Syracuse.
